1. Introduction
This is the outline of the speech at "Topics
Speech Meeting" in NMC(New Management Club) on 1998.10.7 and was
retouched in some parts. Two volunteer activities(volunteer
in an international life level improvement
group and in residence area) which I have
engaged recently are explained. And two small
volunteer activities are added. In addition,
let's think about the problem on the volunteer
activities. I am very happy if this outline
is useful for someone's future volunteer
activity.
2. Volunteer in the field of OA at JVC
2.1 Introduction of JVC
JVC (Japanese international volunteer center)
is the citizens international cooperation
group which was born in February, 1980 in
Thailand and Bangkok. The purpose of the
activity is to produce of a new way of life
which defends the earth environment and to
cooperate with people in Asia and Africa
on whom difficult standpoints have been forced
socially, mentally, and physically in the
international community.
Members are acting in the following various
places now. Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam,
Ethiopia, South Africa, Palestine, and Central
and South America.
The activity budget is 450,000,000 yen a
year (1995 fiscal year) and of about 1,200
members (1992 fiscal year), 12 paid work
staff (domestic) and 43 person (foreign countries).
Domestic enterprise are sales of calendar
and picture postcard, benefit concerts, and
bazaar and article sales.
2.2 Cooperation in the field of OA(Office
Automation) at JVC
1) Accounting system at overseas offices(1993.3乣1994.2)
The methode to total the cost which is necessary
to the volunteer activity in foreign countries
is different by country(handwriting and using
personal computer processing, etc.) and form
accounting has not been decided either. Therefore,
it took long time to make the fiscal year
total and the report to the support group,
etc. , and result was not accurate. Therefore,
new accounting system was constructed by
using the macro-function of Lotus 1(spread
sheet software) to have the floppy disk sent
and to total the cost easily in the headquarters.
2)Construction of client-server system in
headquarters(1994.3乣1996.2)
As data management in the headquarters, there
are three groups. The first group is member
management(the movement of the member, the
fee collection and sending out the bulletin),
the second group is contribution management
(management of the address etc. of the individual
and the group contributor to JVC, sending
out letter of thankss and the contributions
solicitation of etc.), and third group is
retail management (sales of the calendar
and the picture postcard etc.). Management
of three groups goes independently and operation
method(handwriting or the personal computer
processing) have not been decided each. Therefore,
sometimes the address etc. overlapped, and
was different. Then, the rationalization
of clerical work and the improvement of productivity
etc. were aimed at by constructing the client
server system, and introducing unitary managing
the address etc.(the decision of the policy
and examination of the specification etc.).
3.1 From an international volunteer to a domestic volunteer(from logistic support to direct participation)
As OA with JVC completed the first stage and Mr.Y of JVC who has been the leader had went east Asia for volunteer activity, I steered to the volunteer in residencial area. I registered as a volunteer of the Ohta ward welfare public corporation and I participated or I am participating the following three services.
1) Wheeled chair assistance(1997.3-1999.7)
Sending off and receiving a junior high school(high school) boy from his home with wheelchair to the school bus stop.
1.1) I have been strolling with my mother in wheelchair and became familiar the operation with it.
1.2) There was a participation request to the man from a woman who was assisting wheelchair in organization magazine "Shanti(Stillness in Sansckrit)" of SVA (Shanti Volunteer Association) which had become a member by chance.
2) Going out assistance(short term)
I assist the user when he goes to the day-care center.
3) Communication partner and walk assistance(1999.11-)
Because user's husband becomes a little weakheaded by aged, I become his communication partner and serve as walk assistance while user is going out.
3.2 Introduction of Ohta ward welfare public corporation
It is a foundation which Ohta ward established to offer the staying home welfare service to the senior citizen and injury by participation and the cooperation of the inhabitants of the ward in October, 1990.
There are three items as the staying home welfare service as following.
1)Housework covering service, 2) nursing service and 3) meal service.
The nursing service among these items compries services as following.
1) Assistance of meal. 2) Excretion assistance. 3) The personal assistance. 4) Bathing assistance. 5) Wiping of body 6) Assistance of going to hospital. 7) Assistance of wheelchair. 8) Rehabilitation assistance. 9) Other assistances. 10) Housework assistance with nursing.

Various themes are studied for 50 years old or more in cooperation with a domestic, overseas university and education organization (Domestically, there are a lot of pensions). When hostellers from foreign countries (mainly United States and Canada) comes to Japan, the attend of sightseeing of lodging area or Tokyo is important.
4.2 Ohta ward; Aluminum can collection
The aluminum cans are collected and carried to the processing plant in the district. The effective use of the resources and the contribution of remuneration money are accomplished at the same time. The activity was interrupted by the track donor's removing and arrangement of the separated garbage collection of the district.
